always-open gym identity

Pain Cave is not a boutique gym. It's chalk, iron and a community that actually trains. The website had to scream exactly that.

The client arrived with a phrase, not a brief: “be stronger than your excuses. ” We built everything around it.

The brief

  • Present the disciplines: powerlifting, cross training, boxing and HIIT.
  • Sell memberships online with secure checkout and a guarantee.
  • Put the coaches front and center.
  • Work in Spanish and English for Miami's audience.
  • A blog for training advice and community.

How we chose the design

Athletic brutalism: dominant black, alarm red and a heavy condensed type that fills the screen like a weight plate.

Moving marquees with gym mantras run across the page, like the record board on the gym wall.

Photography is grainy black and white: real sweat, no smiling stock photos.

The technology behind it

  • Next.js with bilingual es/en routes and per-language metadata.
  • Tailwind CSS for the visual system and the class and plan components.
  • Membership checkout on Stripe with a visible 14-day guarantee.
  • Marquee and scroll animations tuned so mobile never pays the price.
  • An integrated blog for training content.

What the gym gains

  • Memberships get bought at 3 a.m., the same hour people train.
  • The brand's tone filters the audience: the right members show up.
  • Bilingual content doubles local reach without doubling the site.

Pros and cons of our choices

What we gained

  • An identity impossible to confuse with any other gym in town.
  • Online payments turn late-night motivation into real signups.
  • Next.js keeps a heavily animated, photo-rich site fast.

What we traded away

  • The aggressive style isn't for everyone — on purpose.
  • Animated marquees demanded extra accessibility testing.
  • Black-and-white photography requires consistent photo shoots.

The outcome

A website that works as both filter and magnet: whoever lands there knows what they came for. And they can pay without talking to anyone.
